San Marino Becomes the 76th Signatory of NASA’s Artemis Accords

The Republic of San Marino became the 76th signatory of the Artemis Accords on Friday during a ceremony in Rimini attended by NASA and U.S. State Department officials.

The agreement brings San Marino into a growing coalition of nations committed to peaceful, transparent and responsible space exploration, including future activities involving the Moon and Mars.

“San Marino joins a growing coalition of like-minded nations committed to peaceful, transparent and responsible space exploration,” said NASA Deputy Administrator Matt Anderson.

“President Trump has directed NASA to build a lunar base and establish a permanent presence on the moon. In doing so, we are putting the principles of the agreement into practice. NASA invites all Artemis Accords signatories to participate in our return to the Moon through scientific payloads, technology demonstrations, CubeSats, and other capabilities. San Marino is already looking toward that future.”

San Marino Signs Artemis Accords

Lozano Fabbri, San Marino’s Minister of Industry, Technology and Research, signed the Artemis Accords on behalf of the country. Gregory Mann, NASA’s representative in Europe, attended the ceremony along with Joseph Tordella, the U.S. Consul General in Florence.

“I am delighted and honored to welcome the Republic of San Marino as the 76th signatory of the Artemis Accords,” Fabbri said. “We fully share the principles and values expressed in the Artemis Accords and are confident that signatories united under the agreement will make a concrete contribution to promoting international cooperation in space and ensuring the use of space for peaceful purposes.”

What Are the Artemis Accords?

In 2020, NASA and the U.S. State Department joined seven other founding nations to establish the Artemis Accords in response to growing interest in lunar activities by governments and private industry.

The accords outline practical principles designed to strengthen safety and cooperation between nations as they explore the Moon, Mars and other destinations. Signatories commit to:

• Exploring peacefully and transparently
• Delivering aid to those in need
• Enabling access to scientific data
• Avoiding interference with the activities of others
• Developing best practices to preserve historically significant sites and artifacts

San Marino’s Role in Future Lunar Exploration

By signing the Artemis Accords, San Marino opens the door to future lunar exploration opportunities with NASA. The agreement is intended to support humanity’s return to the Moon while encouraging international cooperation, scientific innovation and responsible space exploration.
