Prince William Highlights Nature Restoration and Regenerative Farming During Farm Visits
Prince William met Kate and Jim Bevan from Great Tre Lou Farm and Jenny Knight, director of Stamp Up for Trees, to discuss nature restoration, climate-resilient forestry and sustainable farming.
Prince William Focuses on Solutions for Nature and Climate
After the visit, Knight paid tribute to Prince William, saying he “looked at solutions, not just problems”.
Representatives from the Duchy of Cornwall also joined the visit to share knowledge about nature restoration and climate-resilient forestry, while beginning a long-term partnership.
“Knowledge exchange is extremely valuable,” Knight said, noting that working together across different areas can have a greater impact.
Prince William Talks About the Farm’s Cider
At the end of their conversation, Prince William spoke about the joys of cider made on the farm.
“He said, ‘A pint a day will keep you away from the doctor,’” Knight said.
Prince William Visits Duchy of Cornwall Regenerative Farming Project
Prince William also visited Herefordshire, where he met farmer Harry Davies, 25. Davies has signed a 25-year contract for a 900-acre farm to lead the Duchy of Cornwall’s first regenerative farming project.
The project aims to improve soil health and make farms more resilient to flooding and drought.
“We should be able to retain water on our land by retaining that water in that soil profile so that it doesn’t run right into our rivers and streams. That will benefit us in the long run when it gets hot and dry,” Davies said.
“There seems to be an opportunity to utilise the experience of my grandfather’s generation, but we also need a little youth and enthusiasm. I think it’s important for generations to work together. That’s exactly what agriculture is.”
