The trailer for Jumanji: Open World brings the franchise’s game-world chaos into reality, with avatars and animals emerging from the game before the characters are pulled back in. The returning cast will face another round of body-swapping mishaps when the film reaches theaters on December 25, 2026.
Returning cast and new characters
The main cast will return, including Dwayne Johnson, Jack Black as Shelley Oberon, Karen Gillan as Ruby Roundhouse, Bebe Neuwirth as Nora—who also appeared in the 1995 film—Morgan Turner as Martha, Madison Iseman as Bethany, Kevin Hart as Nklin “Mouse” Finbar, Nick Jonas as Jefferson “Seaplane” McDonough, Awkwafina as Ming Flatfoot, Alex Wolff as Spencer Gilpin, and Ser’Darius Blaine as Fridge Johnson.
Rhys Darby will reprise his role as Nigel Billingsley, while Danny DeVito will play Spencer’s grandfather, Eddie. Dan Hildebrand plays Donatus, and Jack Jewkes plays Tyson. Burn Gorman, Nasim Pedrad, and Brittany O’Grady will also appear in roles that have not yet been disclosed.
Avatars enter the real world
As in the 1995 film, the trailer shows avatars and animals breaking out into the real world. It is only a matter of time before the characters are drawn back into the game to fix the situation through a series of body-swapping shenanigans.
Spencer’s mother, Janice, played by Marin Hinkle, becomes the avatar of Bravestone, while Spencer takes on the avatar of Ruby Roundhouse. Donatus, who works in the kitchen, becomes trapped in Shelley Oberon’s avatar, and Nora’s nephew Tyson ends up in the avatar of Finbar the Mouse. Although Tyson is too young to wield a bazooka, he does have a cool backpack.
Jumanji: Open World will be released in theaters on December 25, 2026.
