The partial lunar eclipse begins at 02:23 BST, when the Moon enters the bright outer region of Earth’s shadow, known as the penumbra.
The more noticeable stage of the lunar eclipse starts at 03:33, as the darker central shadow of Earth, called the umbra, begins to move across the Moon’s surface. The maximum eclipse occurs at 05:12, external.
In Belfast, the Moon will appear low in the western sky, at around 9 degrees above the horizon. The lunar eclipse will end at 06:34. In Dublin, the Moon will be slightly higher and the eclipse will continue until 06:38.
Further west, the Moon may remain visible for a little longer. In Enniskillen, moonset is at 06:41, external.
Visibility of the partial lunar eclipse will depend not only on cloud cover, but also on having a clear, unobstructed view towards the western horizon.
