On August 28, 2026—or the evening of August 27 in some time zones—the Moon will pass through Earth’s shadow, creating a deep partial lunar eclipse. At the eclipse’s greatest point, at 12:13 a.m. EDT, approximately 96.3% of the Moon’s surface will be immersed in Earth’s umbra, the darkest central portion of the planet’s shadow where direct sunlight is completely blocked. This partial lunar eclipse will be visible across Western Europe, West Africa, and most of the Americas, except Alaska and northwestern Canada.
