The world’s first factory for production of humanoid robots will open this year in Salem, Oregon.

It is about the company Agility Robotics, which announced that the preparations for opening the production of the RoboFab unit are in full swing. The factory started with built last year.

“The opening of our factory marks a pivotal moment in the history of robotics, the beginning of mass production of commercial humanoid robots,” said Damion Shelton, CEO and co-founder of Agility Robotics.

This factory will be able to produce 10,000 robots per year. In 2020, the company unveiled a headless, two-legged robot called Digit, which it designed and manufactured itself, making a significant step forward in the world of robotics, especially when it comes to legged robots and humanoid designs.

“We built Digit to solve today’s workforce issues like injuries, burnout, labor shortages and more, all with the ultimate vision of enabling people to ‘be more human.’ When developing a new technology to improve society, the most important milestone is the ability to produce the technology at a scale where it can have a real and widespread impact,” Shelton added.

The factory has the capacity to produce 10,000 advanced Digit robots per year. In the first year after the opening of the factory, the plan is to produce several hundred robots. When fully operational, the RoboFab factory will have more than 500 employees.

Agility Robotics recently upgraded the Digit robot to make it more capable and versatile. The novelty is a cylindrical head with two animated LED eyes designed to perform logistical tasks. The robot is designed for various applications, distribution and industrial automation. Its humanoid appearance and movements allow it to adapt to a variety of activities that require mobility and manipulation skills. Also, the robot is specially designed to be safe in environments where there are people and can move between them without problems while performing different tasks.
