In March 2025, Wild Futures announced that its monkey sanctuary would close to the public for the remainder of the year because of ongoing financial difficulties.
Wild Futures said the sanctuary was founded after it began rescuing woolly monkeys from the illegal pet trade, providing them with specialist care and a safe place to live.
The organisation said: “We are proud to have been the first Global Federation of Animal Sanctuaries-accredited wildlife sanctuary in Europe. Over the years, we educated hundreds of thousands of visitors about animal welfare, wildlife conservation and the need for a ban on the keeping of primates as pets.”
“Although we feel deep sadness about the closure of the sanctuary, we remain hopeful about the future and the next chapter for Wild Futures. There is still important work to be done to protect animals and promote conservation.”
