GeForce NOW is adding powerful cloud gaming upgrades just in time for the new school year.
The native GeForce NOW app for Linux has officially left beta, delivering improved performance, stability, and usability. NVIDIA has also introduced new cloud optimizations, including enhanced frame generation technology to improve responsiveness while streaming. GeForce NOW Performance members can also benefit from additional CPU performance adjustments designed to increase frame rates in demanding games.
Students can also turn eligible Chromebooks into high-performance GeForce RTX gaming devices with GeForce NOW. New owners of select Chromebooks may qualify for Chromebook Fast Pass, offering an additional way to enjoy cloud gaming with priority access.
Together, these updates make it easier to switch from schoolwork to gaming on almost any device.
The only homework left is choosing what to play. This week, nine new games have joined the GeForce NOW game library.
GeForce NOW brings new upgrades to the cloud
GeForce NOW continues to expand its cloud gaming experience with new software and performance improvements.
The native Linux app for GeForce NOW has officially left beta. The release reflects months of community feedback and focuses on improved performance, stability, and overall polish. The app continues to support Ubuntu 24.04 and newer versions.
A new Flatpak repository also makes it easier for Linux users to install the app and receive future updates. Visit the GeForce NOW download page for installation instructions and additional information.
Because game rendering takes place in the cloud, Linux gamers can access GeForce RTX performance without upgrading local hardware or dealing with compatibility problems and complicated workarounds.
GeForce NOW has also optimized DLSS frame generation in the cloud to reduce latency and improve game responsiveness. The upgrade is especially noticeable when streaming at 60 or 120 frames per second in 1440p and 4K resolution, helping mouse movements, camera turns, and in-game actions feel more immediate.
Performance members can also take advantage of additional server-side software optimizations for select CPU-intensive games. These improvements can help demanding titles run more smoothly and enhance the overall cloud gaming experience. All cloud-side upgrades are applied automatically, with no installation or configuration required and no additional cost for members.
From schoolwork to gaming on a Chromebook
With GeForce NOW, the Chromebook already in your backpack can also become a capable PC gaming device. It adds high-performance cloud gaming to a flexible setup designed for school, work, and entertainment.
Chromebook users can move from lectures, group projects, and browser tabs to GeForce RTX gaming with just a few clicks.
When classes are over, open a supported browser or app and stream more than 2,000 supported PC games from your existing digital library. GeForce NOW handles the demanding rendering in the cloud, making the service available on Macs, Surface devices, everyday laptops, Steam Deck, mobile devices, and more.
New owners of eligible Chromebooks and Chromebook Plus devices can also claim one year of GeForce NOW at no cost with priority access and ad-free Chromebook Fast Pass.
