Dyson Launches Three New Nurovi Robot Vacuums With LiDAR Navigation and UV Dirt Detection

Dyson is expanding its robot vacuum lineup with three new Nurovi models: the Dyson R1 Nurovi Dry, R2 Nurovi Wash + Dry, and R3 Nurovi Spot + Scrub UV. The new robot vacuums feature LiDAR navigation, Dyson’s Twin Capture System, and—on the most advanced model—UV light designed to help detect dirt on floors.

Dyson announced several new products in early September, including vacuum cleaners and electric toothbrushes with built-in cameras. The three Nurovi robot vacuums are now available for purchase, although availability varies by model:

• Dyson R1 Nurovi Dry ($550) — available from Dyson.
• Dyson R2 Nurovi Wash + Dry ($700) — available exclusively at Costco.
• Dyson R3 Nurovi Spot + Scrub UV ($1,200) — available from Dyson.

What’s new in Dyson’s Nurovi robot vacuums?

All three Nurovi models have a light gray color scheme that distinguishes them from the Dyson Spot+Scrub Ai. The vacuum and base station retain the canister-style compartment that gives Dyson’s robot vacuums their distinctive appearance.

The Nurovi lineup also introduces several technology updates. The robots use high-precision LiDAR laser navigation instead of the HD cameras used by Dyson’s previous robot vacuums. The more expensive models add UV light to help identify dirt on floors, while Dyson’s Twin Capture System is designed to collect dust and debris from both hard floors and carpets.

The entry-level R1 Nurovi Dry is a vacuum-only model. The R2 Nurovi Wash + Dry and R3 Nurovi Spot + Scrub UV combine vacuuming with mopping. The R2 is currently available through Costco, while the R1 and R3 are sold through Dyson’s website and may also be available from other retailers.

I plan to test these robot vacuums to see how they compare with similar models, but several features already stand out.

Dyson R1 Nurovi Dry — $550

The Nurovi R1 is a dedicated robot vacuum rather than a vacuum-and-mop hybrid. It uses LiDAR navigation and Dyson’s Twin Capture System to collect debris from hard floors and carpets.

The R1 could be an interesting option for homes with mostly carpet or other soft flooring that does not require mopping. However, other robot vacuums at this price point offer both vacuuming and mopping, so its performance will be worth comparing with competing models.

Dyson R2 Nurovi Wash + Dry — $700

The R2 is a vacuum-and-mop hybrid that adds wet cleaning to the Nurovi lineup. It shares the new LiDAR navigation system and Twin Capture System found across the range and is currently available through Costco.

Dyson R3 Nurovi Spot + Scrub UV — $1,200

The R3 is the most expensive Nurovi model and combines vacuuming and mopping with UV light designed to help spot dirt on floors. It is available through Dyson and includes the same LiDAR navigation and Twin Capture System used by the other Nurovi robots.
