Climate change is making the planet hotter, and communities worldwide are increasingly experiencing its effects. The past decade includes 10 of the warmest years on record, while 2024 was the hottest year ever recorded. As global temperatures continue to rise, heat waves are becoming more frequent, longer-lasting and more intense. These changes can have serious consequences for human health.
Extreme heat can affect the body in several ways. Prolonged exposure may cause dehydration, heat exhaustion and heatstroke, a life-threatening condition that requires immediate medical attention. High temperatures can also place additional strain on the heart and lungs, increasing health risks for older adults, young children, people with chronic conditions and anyone who works or exercises outdoors.
How concerned are you about the health effects of climate change? Are rising temperatures changing the way you think about exercise, fitness, daily activities or the safety of your family and community? Take our survey and share your thoughts in the comments section below.
