Cheers erupted across a Northamptonshire apartment complex as a teenage astronomer hosted a solar eclipse watch party for local residents.
Fourteen-year-old Aston set up a telescope, helped create homemade eclipse viewers and distributed 400 pairs of solar eclipse glasses to neighbors at his home in Overstone, Northamptonshire. The event aimed to raise more than £400 for British Astronomy.
Aston’s mother, Lindsay Smith, said she had never seen the apartment grounds so busy. Neighbors praised the young astronomer as a “local celebrity” and even asked him for autographs.
Aston, who dreams of working for SpaceX, also led children in a science experiment measuring light levels and temperature during the partial solar eclipse.
