Advances in adaptive display technology will enable the development of completely new types of devices.
After the design of mobile devices was quite similar for years and the phones did not differentiate significantly, with the development of flexible screens the situation has changed. Most mobile companies have already introduced their phones with bendable screens, and the demand for them is increasing, although they still cannot compete with classic phones in terms of sales.
Thanks to advances in screen technology, we can expect various innovations in the future. Some computer manufacturers have already introduced laptops with a flexible screen that allow different ways of use (they can be used as small laptops or computers, or tablets that require an additional keyboard), and Motorola decided on a slightly different concept.
The Global Tech Event Global Conference was introduced, as they called him from the Motorole, adaptive concept of the screen, ie a device that can be used as a classic smartphone, but also as a smart watch. Namely, as it is a flexible screen, the device can be wrapped around your arm. Although the device is interesting, it does not seem to be a large screen wrapped around the wrist, but it is the concept that Motorola wants to show the possibilities of technology and what all innovation are possible thanks to flexible screens.
The concept device has an FHD pOLED screen and, when the screen is fully open, this Motorola can be used as a classic smartphone. The diagonal of the screen is 6.9 inches and it can run Android and all applications like on other phones. The screen can be slightly curved so that one part serves as a stand, while the upper part can also be used as a phone, but with a smaller 4.6-inch diagonal screen. Also, it can be further folded and placed around the arm, so some media say that in this case it is the first “wearable phone”, alluding to the category of wearable devices such as smart watches and bracelets. According to the posted videos, which you can see on Motorola’s site, the user interface adapts to the current shape of the phone, depending on how curved the screen is.
This concept device is not only interesting in terms of hardware, but also in terms of software and artificial intelligence that enables the personalization of themes and backgrounds on the screen, even based on the clothes the owner of the phone wears. As shown in the promotional video, all you have to do is take a photo of the clothes you’re wearing and the AI in your phone will create a theme based on those clothes to match those clothes. In addition to matching clothes with shoes and handbags, in the future it will be possible to match the fashion combination with the background of the phone.
