As a first-generation college student from a small town, Gohar Khan ’21 navigated the college admissions process largely on his own. To help other students access reliable college admissions guidance, he founded the YouTube channel Gohar’s Guide.
Today, more than 10 million people follow Khan on social media for college application advice, study tips, academic strategies, and practical life hacks. He is also the CEO and co-founder of Next Admit, an education consulting firm that offers college essay support, application guidance, and test preparation resources. “I have a mission to help students around the world succeed in and out of school,” he says.
Born in Pakistan, Khan immigrated to the United States when he was six months old and grew up in Connecticut. He attended a public high school that rarely sent graduates to top universities. Because his parents had not experienced the college admissions process themselves, Khan had to learn how to apply to college independently. “It was difficult, and I wanted to demystify the admissions process for students who are in the same position I was once in,” he says.
