A stunning 67-million-year-old Tyrannosaurus rex has set a record at Sotheby’s auction in New York, selling for £37.4 million ($50.1 million), making it the most expensive dinosaur ever sold.
According to Sotheby’s, this extraordinary fossil of the infamous predator stands over 12 feet (4 meters) tall and features more than 60 percent of its bones recovered, positioning it as one of the most complete dinosaur specimens ever found.
The identity of the winning bidder from Tuesday’s auction remains undisclosed.
Affectionately named Gus, this Tyrannosaurus was unearthed in 2021 on a remote ranch in South Dakota, USA.
