It remains a strong option for sleep tracking, fitness monitoring, and everyday smartwatch features, and Google continues to support it with regular software updates.

Whoop MG for $239 at its lowest price: The screen-free Whoop MG focuses heavily on recovery and sleep analysis. It tracks sleep adequacy, consistency, efficiency, and overall sleep performance, then combines those measurements into a daily sleep score. Its Sleep Coach feature provides personalized bedtime and wake-up suggestions based on factors such as stress and recovery.
The built-in haptic motor can wake you with a discreet vibration. However, because Whoop has no display, dismissing the alarm requires a double tap on the device or access to the companion smartphone app. Testing also found that its recommendations could sometimes call for more sleep than a user could realistically achieve.
Apple Watch Series 11 for $399: Apple Watch models from Series 4 onward can monitor sleep, making them useful for users who already own one. The watch uses its heart-rate sensor and accelerometer to identify four sleep stages. Garmin Epix Pro (Gen 2) for $1,100: Garmin’s advanced sleep monitoring on the Epix Pro tracks sleep stages, blood oxygen saturation, breathing rate, and nighttime restlessness. The watch provides detailed fitness and recovery insights, although its sleep estimates may not always match results from dedicated trackers such as Whoop or Oura. Naps are not included in the Garmin sleep score, which is worth considering if you regularly sleep during the day.
Google Nest Hub (2nd generation) for $100: The Google Nest Hub uses radar-based sleep sensing, allowing you to monitor sleep without wearing a watch or ring. Its microphone can detect snoring, sleep talking, and other nighttime sounds. The device also works as a smart-home controller, digital photo frame, and bedside speaker for podcasts or relaxing audio.

It combines an accelerometer and gyroscope with EEG-style brain-activity sensors and PPG sensors for heart-rate and blood-flow measurements. Withings Sleep Tracking Mat for $200: This non-wearable sleep tracker sits beneath the mattress and monitors movement, breathing, and heart rate from under the chest area. It can also detect snoring and other nighttime sounds, while its breathing analysis may flag signs associated with sleep apnea.
Setup requires a brief adjustment, but the mat is simple to use once installed and does not need charging because it plugs into an outlet. Its sleep-stage accuracy is less consistent than that of some wearable trackers. For example, reading or watching television in bed may be interpreted as an attempt to sleep, while quiet periods of wakefulness can be recorded as light sleep. —Simon Hill
Withings ScanWatch 2 for $370: The Withings ScanWatch 2 delivers a morning sleep score out of 100 and tracks awake, REM, light, and deep sleep stages. Its PPG sensor measures breathing rate, while additional sensors monitor heart rate, body temperature, and blood oxygen levels.
