OnePlus burst onto the scene in 2014 with a daring marketing approach and an attractive proposition: “What if your phone was cheaper and faster?” Fast forward over a decade, and both the smartphone market and OnePlus have evolved significantly. After months of speculation, OnePlus has officially confirmed that their upcoming devices will not be launched in North America and Europe.
This shift was anticipated as OnePlus shifted its focus back to India following a brief expansion in the US through partnerships with T-Mobile and Verizon during the pandemic. The brand is increasingly influenced by its parent company, Oppo, leading to more aligned product launches and software experiences across both brands. While OnePlus plans to release the OnePlus 15 in late 2025 in the US and Europe, it’s likely to be one of the last phones many users will encounter.
Earlier this year, OnePlus dismissed rumors regarding a potential shutdown; however, their language was ambiguous and didn’t assure users about future smartphone releases. Their latest announcement also reflects caution, stating, “As part of our proactive global strategic adjustment, OnePlus has decided to end the rollout of new products in Europe and North America.”
Although the current range of OnePlus smartphones will remain available in North America and Europe, the company commits to ongoing software support. Notably, OnePlus will transition from the OxygenOS version of Android to Oppo’s ColorOS globally with the release of the Android 17 update. For now, new devices will only launch in India and China, with speculation that the company’s operations in India may conclude in 2027.
