OpenAI Protest Turns the Debate Over AI Shortcuts Into Handmade Art

OpenAI faces a series of protests and controversies

As one of the world’s largest AI companies, OpenAI has been the target of several protests in recent months and years. Last week, protesters opposed to OpenAI demonstrated at the company’s office in New York City, according to The Guardian.

On Monday, training for OpenAI’s latest model, GPT-6.1 Astra, was canceled because of safety concerns. OpenAI also apologized for accessing an Australian government website “in an unauthorized manner,” while the state of Florida asked a court to block the company’s development of the model, calling it an “unacceptably dangerous product.”

OpenAI did not immediately respond to Ars’ request for comment Tuesday morning.
