America PAC Spending Targets Talarico, Sherrod Brown and Josh Turek in Key Senate Races
The single largest expenditure by an American PAC was two $1.3 million digital media acquisitions targeting Talarico. America PAC does not spend money on television advertising, which is handled by other groups, including MAGA, the Trump-affiliated super PAC.
Meanwhile, Texas PAC, which is affiliated with the Senate Republican Conference, has dominated television advertising in the state. Punchbowl News reported last month that Texas PAC had about $120 million reserved and was looking to buy $100 million in advertising space by Nov. 3, he said.
Ohio Senate Election: America PAC Targets Sherrod Brown
In the Ohio Senate race, America PAC spent $1.6 million supporting Republican candidate Jon Husted, compared with $3.3 million opposing Democrat Sherrod Brown.
Husted has struggled to distance himself from data center support as voters across Ohio grow weary of the rising costs associated with the projects. He has been tagged the “Face of Data Centers” because of a planned Nvidia data center project in Ohio leased by OpenAI, as well as his past support for data centers while working in state government.
Brown’s efforts to portray Husted as a data center champion were so effective that the Senate Republican campaign arm put a memo in place. In August, he said he was putting an anchor around Husted’s neck in the polls.
At a rally in Ohio this week, President Trump appeared to lose patience with the criticism and declared to the crowd, “We want data centers.” Husted’s campaign quickly responded that data centers should be a “local decision.”
Iowa State Senate Election: America PAC Spending Favors Attacks
In Iowa, America PAC spent $1.5 million attacking Democratic candidate Josh Turek but only about $100,000 supporting Republican candidate Ashley Hinson, the largest spending disparity tracked by the WIRED tracker.
Put another way, America PAC has spent about 14 times more attacking Turek than supporting Hinson.
