Storm Boero: Amber wind warning issued across much of Scotland
An amber weather warning has been issued across much of Scotland as Storm Boero brings the risk of strong winds, flying debris and power outages.
Storm Boero is the second of two storms expected to affect Scotland in the coming days. Storm Austin has already brought heavy rain and strong winds, causing disruption to some transport services.
Met Office weather warnings for Scotland
The latest Met Office warnings include a yellow rain warning from 07:00 until midnight on Friday across central and eastern areas.
The wind warning for Storm Boero has been upgraded from yellow to amber across mainland Scotland and the Western Isles. It will remain in place from 21:00 on Saturday until 21:00 on Sunday.
Orkney remains under a yellow wind warning.
Travel disruption expected
The Scottish Transport Authority said road, rail, air and ferry services could all be affected by the severe weather. Travellers may face longer journey times and cancellations, while bridges and other exposed routes could be subject to restrictions.
A 24-hour amber warning is not unprecedented, but the warning is unusual because it covers such a large area and remains in place for such a long period.
Scottish Government prepares for severe weather
The forecast prompted a meeting of the Scottish Government’s Resilience Office to help ensure the country was prepared for the severe weather event.
