Wildwood is an upcoming stop-motion animated fantasy adventure from LAIKA. Based on the acclaimed book, the film follows Prue, a young girl who enters a dangerous and mysterious hidden forest to rescue her baby brother. The story explores themes of love, power, courage, and the unknown.
According to director Travis Knight, Wildwood is LAIKA’s most ambitious movie yet. The production features intense combat scenes, large-scale aerial sequences, and advanced visual effects. “To do this book justice, we needed to build our creative tools, technology, and storytelling muscle,” Knight told Empire.
The stop-motion production includes 136 detailed sets and 231 practical puppets, enhanced with digital visual effects. The film’s expanded scope and innovative production techniques are designed to bring the fantastical world of Wildwood to life on the big screen.
Wildwood voice cast
Peyton Elizabeth Lee voices Prue, while Jacob Tremblay plays Curtis and Carey Mulligan voices Alexandra. The cast also includes Angela Bassett as the General, a giant golden eagle; Jake Johnson and Maya Erskine as Prue’s parents; and Arthur Knight as her baby brother, Mac.
Mahershala Ali voices Bandit King Brendan, Jemaine Clement plays Roger Swindon, Awkwafina voices Septima the rat, and Charlie Day plays Dmitri the coyote. The cast also features Amandla Stenberg as Niamh, Tom Waits as Maxim, Tantu Cardinal as Iphigenia, Richard E. Grant as the wise owl Rex, and Marc Evan Jackson as Lars.
Len Cariou voices Suvik, while Rob Delaney, Ólafur Darri Ólafsson, and Blythe Danner will play undisclosed characters.
Wildwood release date
Wildwood is scheduled to be released exclusively in theaters on October 23, 2026.
