With a double major in computer science and mathematics, Shen says her MIT education and lifelong passion for drawing have shaped her career. Her favorite course, Math Project Laboratory, challenged students to develop creative solutions to complex mathematical problems and present their ideas to diverse audiences.
Shen values elegant algorithms, but she also recognizes that technical sophistication must deliver real-world results. “You can build very sophisticated algorithms, but if they don’t increase audience engagement, it doesn’t mean much.”
