During a stargazing session, Efan said the most impressive planet he saw was Jupiter because it appeared “so transparent.” However, Neptune is his favorite planet because of its famous Great Dark Spot, a powerful storm system believed to be roughly the size of Earth.
In October, Efan met his hero, former British European Space Agency astronaut Tim Peake, at a book tour event after waiting “outside the dressing room door” to speak with him.
During their meeting, Tim Peake shared practical advice to help Efan achieve his ambition of becoming an astronaut.
His recommendations included earning an engineering degree, finding a route into the Royal Air Force, doing well at school, and staying physically fit.
The European Space Agency also advised Efan to learn Russian, explaining that language skills could help him progress through training at Russia’s Gagarin Cosmonaut Training Center.
To improve his Russian, Efan has been using Duolingo for almost 300 days. He has already learned greetings such as “good morning,” words for family members, and the names of animals including dogs and cats.
