ChatGPT and OpenAI Codex Outage Affects Conversations, Login, Search, and More
ChatGPT and OpenAI Codex are experiencing a major service outage, with users reporting errors across many of ChatGPT’s most popular features.
The OpenAI outage began on Thursday, September 3, at approximately 10:58 a.m. ET. The disruption is affecting ChatGPT conversations, login services, search, file uploads, voice mode, GPTs, image generation, Deep Research, agents, ChatGPT Work, and other features.
OpenAI’s Codex service is also experiencing problems as part of the widespread outage.
Users affected by the incident may be unable to load existing ChatGPT conversations, send messages, sign in to their accounts, or access features such as web search, file uploads, image generation, Deep Research, and voice mode.
OpenAI is aware of the issue and has acknowledged the incident on its official status page.
According to OpenAI, the company is “investigating issues with the listed services.”
The OpenAI status page lists at least 15 affected ChatGPT and Codex components. These include Conversations, Login, ChatGPT Work, ChatGPT Desktop Codex, Compliance API, Search, File Uploads, Voice Mode, GPTs, Image Generation, Deep Research, Agents, ChatGPT Atlas, Sites, and Connectors/Apps.
The ChatGPT outage comes ahead of the expected launch of OpenAI’s next major artificial intelligence model, Astra, which the company recently confirmed is coming soon.
OpenAI has not indicated whether the current service disruption is connected to preparations for Astra. However, ChatGPT has experienced previous outages, making it too early to determine the cause of today’s incident.
At the time of publication, OpenAI is continuing to investigate errors affecting ChatGPT, Codex, and related services. Users should check the company’s status page for the latest updates and recovery information.
