NASA’s Ames Research Center fire department will conduct aircraft firefighting training at Moffett Federal Airfield in California’s Silicon Valley from Tuesday, Sept. 8, through Friday, Sept. 11. The training will run daily from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. PDT and will feature a propane-fueled aircraft fire simulator.
Because the aircraft simulator uses propane, the controlled training exercises are expected to produce very little smoke. However, drivers traveling on U.S. Highway 101 may be able to see flames during the NASA Ames aircraft emergency response training.
The exercises are designed to help NASA Ames firefighters and first responders prepare for a range of realistic aircraft fire and rescue scenarios at Moffett Federal Airfield.
