Powerful Nor’easter Hits Northeast With Coastal Flooding, Outages and Travel Disruptions

Tens of millions of people across the northeastern United States are facing a powerful nor’easter this weekend, with coastal flooding, power outages, heavy rain, high winds, travel disruptions and canceled stadium events already reported.

Nor’easter to Peak Saturday

The storm is expected to peak on Saturday and bring “dangerous coastal flooding, coastal conditions, high winds and heavy rain” to areas including New York City and Boston, the National Weather Service (NWS) said.

Rain and strong winds are expected from Virginia to Maine. States of emergency have been declared in New York and New Jersey, while coastal flooding is already affecting parts of New Jersey.

About 150,000 Households Without Power

The nor’easter has already caused widespread power outages. According to PowerOutage.us, about 150,000 households have lost power so far.

Flight Delays and Grounded Aircraft

The Federal Aviation Administration advised travelers to check with their airlines for the latest flight information. More than 1,100 flights were delayed and another 400 were grounded, according to FlightAware.

Full Moon Could Worsen Coastal Flooding

Saturday’s full moon is predicted to worsen coastal flooding. Roads and homes were flooded in the New Jersey coastal communities of Surf City and Manasquan.
