Elon Musk’s America PAC Spent $76.7 Million on 2026 Midterm Election Efforts
Elon Musk is secretly funding a massive campaign to support Republican candidates in the 2026 midterm elections, according to federal filings posted Thursday night. The effort rivals the billionaire’s campaign operations during the 2024 presidential election.
To track Musk’s overall influence on the November election, WIRED has created a live update tracker that pulls in federal filings daily.
America PAC targets Republican turnout in battleground states
Musk-aligned America PAC spent $76.7 million in the third quarter of 2026, including $35.8 million on field operations designed to boost turnout among President Donald Trump’s core base. The efforts cover all seven Senate battleground states and numerous House races, according to the documents.
America PAC spent approximately $45 million on field operations during the same period in the 2024 election cycle, when super PACs played a major role in Trump’s presidential campaign.
Musk has assembled a presidential-level field operation during a midterm election, highlighting how extensively he has taken over the Republican Party’s vote-getting efforts. The operation resembles a shadow Republican National Committee. With only three weeks remaining before Election Day, the total amount spent is likely to rise further.
Advertising remains America PAC’s largest expense
Advertising is America PAC’s largest expense, surpassing the $23.7 million it spent on digital ads, campaign materials and phone banking efforts that primarily attack Democrats.
Musk gives $158 million to Republican super PAC efforts
To help preserve the Republican Senate majority, Musk also donated $158 million to the Senate Leadership Fund, a major super PAC supporting Republican candidates for the chamber.
The same amount appears to have been funneled to a Texas PAC registered with the Federal Election Commission in August 2026. The PAC supports embattled Republican candidate Ken Paxton for Texas attorney general.
Musk has a wide range of personal and business interests, with a particular focus on the Texas race during this midterm election. He lives near Austin, where his businesses SpaceX and Tesla are based. Musk accounted for nearly 60 percent of the $273 million raised by the Senate Leadership Fund for the Texas PAC.
Musk emerges as a major midterm donor
Musk’s enormous war chest has been directed toward all seven closely contested Senate races and, to a lesser extent, several competitive House races. That spending makes him the largest known donor to both Republicans and Democrats in the 2026 midterm elections.
Since its creation, America PAC has relied primarily on outside companies for paid recruitment efforts. Those companies hire workers to knock on the doors of people likely to vote for Trump or Republican candidates, urging them to register and vote early.
