Storm Adam Flooding in France Kills at Least Four and Injures One
At least four people have been killed and one injured in France after severe flooding caused by Storm Adam.
Southern France hit by widespread flooding
The storm caused widespread flooding across southern France on Tuesday, inundating roads and disrupting road and rail transport.
Two of those killed were women aged 86 and 26, who were found drowned in a cellar in the Bouches-du-Rhone region.
Floodwaters sweep away vehicle in Corsica
Corsica was also hit by severe weather. Local media reported on Tuesday that floodwaters swept away a four-wheel-drive vehicle. One occupant escaped through a window, while the other man was found dead.
Authorities have not released further details about the fourth death.
Residents evacuated to emergency shelters
Dozens of residents in the towns of Moulier and Saint-Martin-de-Cros, between Montpellier and Marseille, were taken to emergency shelters after flooding. Officials said one person was injured in the area.
Roads and rail lines in the region were also disrupted, Transport Minister Philip Tabarro wrote in a post on X.
Water levels reach unprecedented heights
“Water levels have risen to unprecedented levels,” Bouches-du-Rhone Governor Jack Witkowski said in a statement on Wednesday.
Witkowski expressed his “thoughts to all those suffering,” adding: “We are mobilizing at an extraordinary level to solve some problems.”
