Kazakhstan’s AI Ecosystem Expands From Infrastructure to Implementation
Kazakhstan’s artificial intelligence ecosystem is moving from infrastructure planning to implementation, with developments spanning the full AI stack—from accelerated computing infrastructure and models to AI-powered applications.
Recent announcements highlight the country’s growing supply of advanced computing capacity and increasing demand for the technologies and applications that will run on it.
Kazakhstan Expands Its AI Infrastructure
Kazakh Telecom, the country’s largest telecommunications company, has already deployed 400 NVIDIA H200 GPUs and 480 NVIDIA B300 GPUs in Astana and Almaty.
Over the next year, the company plans to deploy more than 1,000 GPUs in Data Center Valley and more than 1,000 NVIDIA Vera Rubin GPUs in the Ekibastuz region. The expanded infrastructure is intended to support a range of workloads and provide enterprises, developers and institutions with access to computing capacity at scale.
AI-Native Companies Can Scale With More Compute
Homegrown AI-native companies are also developing the computing capabilities and applications needed to advance Kazakhstan’s AI ecosystem.
inDrive and Pony.ai are exploring a robotaxi service in Kazakhstan, with Astana expected to be the first city considered for its introduction. The companies will evaluate the feasibility of deploying Pony.ai’s seventh-generation robotaxis through inDrive apps, supported by NVIDIA AI infrastructure.
The proposed autonomous mobility service would use the NVIDIA Hyperion sensor and computing platform, along with the NVIDIA Halos safety system.
More Computing Capacity Could Accelerate AI Development
Greater local computing capacity gives developers and businesses more room to train, fine-tune and deliver increasingly capable AI models. As successful applications emerge, they can create additional demand for computing resources.
Kazakhstan’s AI opportunity depends on more than the number of GPUs deployed. By connecting infrastructure with developers, universities, startups and industry, the country can turn accelerated computing into practical AI applications.
Building Kazakhstan’s AI Foundation
These developments represent different layers of Kazakhstan’s AI stack, including infrastructure deployment, access to compute and AI-native product development. Together, they are helping take the country’s AI foundation to a new scale.
