It is little known that Hyundai also deals with a heavy industry that goes beyond classic road transport.
Hyundai Rotem is part of the company, whose range also includes tanks. A very competitive one at that, as evidenced by the major contract with Poland, whose ground army Hyundai is supplying hundreds of K2 battle tanks.
The company has now unveiled the concept of a new battle tank. They simply call it the new generation main battle tank, and what makes it special is the implementation of stealth technology.
“The latest design, which takes advantage of stealth technology, was created in collaboration with Hyundai Motor and highlights the future of land vehicles,” said a representative of Hyundai Rotema. “We don’t have a concrete timeline for full production yet as the vehicle is still in the concept stage.” We also need to determine the level of demand from different governments.”
The tank was premiered at the Seoul International Aerospace & Design Exhibition, and the external appearance clearly indicates that it is an advanced product aimed at minimizing radar visibility. Honeycomb panels have been installed on the sides, the turret has been moved back, and the real surprise comes only when you look at the crew.
And while the crew of the current K2 is reduced to three members, this tank has no crew. Namely, the tank is controlled remotely, which includes rotating the turret and selecting targets. On the other hand, the system for active protection against anti-tank weapons is fully automated.
In addition, part of the tank is a multifunctional drone that serves as a kind of escort during battlefield surveillance. Previous information indicated that it will weigh about 55 tons, and the diesel engine will allow a speed of 70 km/h with an autonomy of 500 km.
