The Mangalica cross pig, a unique breed originating from Hungary in the 1830s, is the result of crossing domestic pig breeds from Eastern Europe with wild boars. This hairy pig breed is celebrated for its adaptability and resilience.
A spokesperson from DWT stated, “As pigs forage, they actively turn over the soil in search of roots and rhizomes. This natural behavior helps reduce bracken cover, creating opportunities for a diverse range of plants and wildlife to thrive.”

Currently, the pigs are around 4 months old, and they will eventually mature into large, woolly pigs known for their distinctive appearance and hardiness.
