Windows 11 24H2 Home and Pro Reach End of Support: Upgrade to Windows 11 26H2
Microsoft has ended support for devices running Windows 11 version 24H2 Home and Pro. These editions will no longer receive monthly security updates or non-security preview updates.
Windows 11 24H2 Home and Pro no longer receive updates
According to Microsoft’s lifecycle policy, Windows 11 24H2 Enterprise and Education editions will continue to receive mainstream support until October 12, 2027. Microsoft’s lifecycle policy provides additional servicing details.
“Today, October 13, 2026, updates have ended for Windows 11, versions 24H2 Home and Pro, and Windows 10 Enterprise LTSB 2016. The October 2026 Monthly Security Updates are the last updates available for these editions,” Microsoft said in a Message Center update.
Microsoft also warned that devices running these editions will no longer receive monthly security and non-security preview updates, including protections against the latest security threats.
Microsoft recommends upgrading to Windows 11 26H2
Microsoft recommends that users upgrade to the latest version of its operating system, Windows 11 version 26H2, also known as the Windows 11 2026 Update.
The update is gradually rolling out to eligible Windows 11 devices with the “Get the latest updates as they become available” option enabled.
Windows 11 26H2 will be generally available as an enablement package in September 2026 and will end consumer support in October 2029.
“The rollout of Windows 11 version 26H2 will occur in stages and will be expanded over the coming months,” Microsoft added. “If an update is ready on your device, it will be automatically downloaded and installed, requiring only one restart to complete the process.”
Windows 11 23H2 Enterprise support is also ending
Microsoft last week notified customers that support for Windows 11 23H2 Home and Pro editions ended in November 2025. Systems running Windows 11 23H2 Enterprise, Education, and IoT Enterprise editions will also stop receiving security updates within 30 days.
Earlier this year, Microsoft extended the free Windows 10 Extended Security Updates (ESU) program for home users and announced that Windows Server 2022 would reach the end of mainstream support today. Extended support for Windows Server 2022 will continue until October 2031.
Most recently, Microsoft warned customers to upgrade devices running unsupported Windows versions because they will no longer receive security updates after next year’s Windows Update certificate rotation.
