The British Firework Championships are taking place in Plymouth alongside the eclipse, with thousands of visitors and local residents expected to gather on Plymouth Hoe to enjoy the spectacular events.
Sarah Gibson, chief executive of the Plymouth Waterfront Partnership, said the combination of the sunny weather, fireworks and eclipse was expected to attract large crowds.
“We’re expecting the combination of the sunny weather, the British Firework Championships and the eclipse to attract huge crowds to Plymouth’s waterfront areas.
“Every year, the British Firework Championships are a major attraction for residents and visitors around Plymouth Sound, and local businesses are preparing to welcome large numbers of people.
“Plymouth offers one of the best locations in the South West to watch the eclipse, so visitor numbers are expected to increase. However, we encourage everyone watching the eclipse to stay safe and follow the government’s guidance.”
In Cornwall, businesses are also preparing for increased interest, with several eclipse viewing events planned across the county.
Three air display teams are scheduled to take to the skies above Falmouth Bay in a free event from 18:00, shortly before the eclipse reaches its peak.
An eclipse viewing event is also being held at Perranporth Beach, alongside other celebrations and viewing parties across Cornwall.
