Barcelona Supercomputing Center AI Factory Accelerator Expands Support for European AI Startups
The Barcelona Supercomputing Center (BSC) AI Factory Accelerator is now fully operational following a pilot initiative. The program gives startups access to sovereign computing infrastructure, technical support and training to help them develop AI innovations across industries.
Many participating companies are members of NVIDIA Inception, NVIDIA’s startup program. Select BSC AI Factory services are now available through the NVIDIA Inception portal.
NVIDIA Inception complements the BSC AI Factory Accelerator by providing members with training through the NVIDIA Deep Learning Institute, as well as open courses, business coaching, venture capital connections and other resources.
Expanding sovereign AI computing access in Europe
The upcoming expansion of MareNostrum 5—BSC’s public infrastructure for scientific and technological innovation powered by NVIDIA accelerated computing—will provide startups with access to supercomputing through the BSC AI Factory and other AI factories across Europe.
The BSC AI Factory is one of Europe’s first AI factories and Spain’s first. Since launching in April 2025, it has provided more than 800 services to private- and public-sector customers.
Three startups named BSC AI Factory AI Champions
Three NVIDIA Inception members were recently named AI Champions for the BSC AI Factory Accelerator Programme during the pilot initiative’s Demo Day.
Catium: AI-powered water network management
Catium operates a water network platform already used by more than 250 utilities in 16 countries. The company is in the early production stages of its Neural Water Intelligence technology, powered by a proprietary AI model trained on MareNostrum 5.
Built on NVIDIA accelerated computing, the platform uses the NVIDIA cuGraph library, the NVIDIA Physics NeMo framework and NVIDIA Nemotron. The open model technology helps water utilities make better day-to-day operational decisions.
One Care AI: Identifying hidden signs of atrial fibrillation
One Care AI, a research spin-off from BSC, has developed technology using NVIDIA NIM Microservices. The technology is designed to identify hidden signs of atrial fibrillation—an irregular heart rhythm—in seemingly normal electrocardiograms.
By helping clinicians identify patients who may be at risk for stroke before a stroke occurs, the technology supports earlier assessment and intervention.
Avatya: Voice-first AI for pharmaceutical sales
Avatya has built a voice-first, multi-agent system that gives pharmaceutical companies an agency colleague for supporting sales representatives. The system also provides physicians with transparent, curated information about medicines, helping the right treatment reach the right patients faster.
Avatya’s system uses NVIDIA NIM Microservices, the NVIDIA Nemotron 3 open model family and the open-source NVIDIA NeMo Curator library.
AI startups working across healthcare, agriculture and sustainability
Other BSC AI Factory startups include Agricola AI, Elna Health, Loktor, Montevive AI, Oppy, pack 2 earth and up 2 smart.
The companies span fields including precision agriculture, access to medical images and knowledge, voice services, enterprise security, sales intelligence and sustainable packaging.
Together, the cohort demonstrates the breadth of applications that advanced AI can support. These include preventing strokes, detecting breast cancer subtypes before biopsies, putting medical knowledge at doctors’ fingertips, replacing petroleum-based plastics with bio-based compostable materials and using robots instead of chemicals to protect crops.
