Whether a ray of light can traverse an object largely depends on the material composition and the light’s characteristics, such as frequency, color, and polarization. While these attributes can be linked to individual photons, certain properties of light only become apparent when viewed through the lens of collective behavior among multiple photons. The challenge of creating materials that manipulate these collective light properties has been significant; Nature and others.1 Recent reports highlight the development of nanostructured materials capable of filtering light based on “quantum statistics,” which detail the correlations of photon arrivals at the detector.
