I tested the Saily Ultra eSIM plan extensively in the UK and briefly in other parts of Europe. Setting up the Saily app was quick and straightforward, and the eSIM kept me connected while roaming. During my month-long test, I reached speeds of up to approximately 300 Mbps on 5G in city centres. In rural areas, the connection typically switched to 4G, with speeds closer to 15 Mbps. Your actual performance will depend on local coverage and the network Saily uses in your area. In my experience, Saily primarily connected to EE and Vodafone in the UK.
The Saily Ultra plan includes 30 GB of high-speed data. In this context, “high-speed” means the data is not subject to a specific speed cap—the connection speed depends on the local mobile network. After using the 30 GB allowance, you can continue browsing with unlimited data at speeds of up to 1 Mbps. This throttled connection was suitable for messaging, scrolling through websites, and using navigation apps, but it was too slow for data-intensive activities such as streaming video.
Keep in mind that the plan has a 30 GB monthly data limit before throttling begins. Although many people use around 20 GB of mobile data per month, travel can increase your usage because Wi-Fi may not always be available. Your 30 GB allowance can disappear faster than expected, especially when streaming, using video calls, or downloading large files. To conserve mobile data while traveling, connect to Wi-Fi whenever possible. You can also download videos, music, and offline maps before your trip or whenever you have a reliable Wi-Fi connection.
If you are visiting only one or two countries, a pay-as-you-go eSIM plan for a specific country or region may offer better value. For example, Saily offers 15 days of unlimited data in the UK for $49, although its fair-use policy limits usage after more than 5 GB in 24 hours until the following day. Unlimited data in Europe, covering 35 countries, costs $72 per month and has the same 5 GB daily limit. Alternatively, you can purchase 20 GB of data valid for 30 days for $23 in France or $31 in the UK.
I have used several international eSIM providers and traditional SIM cards while traveling. Compared with many alternatives, Saily delivers strong performance and an easy setup experience. However, it is relatively expensive. Its additional travel and online security benefits may help justify the price, particularly for frequent travelers.
Saily Ultra benefits for frequent travelers
The Saily Ultra plan may be difficult to justify if you compare providers based only on data allowance. However, frequent travelers may find the included airport and online security perks valuable. Here is what the plan includes:
Saily Ultra benefits shown in the app
- One airport lounge pass per month: Airport lounges provide a quieter place to work or relax, along with comfortable seating, high-speed Wi-Fi, and complimentary food and drinks. Saily Ultra includes one free lounge pass per person each month. The Saily app generates a QR code that remains valid for 30 minutes. See the full list of supported lounge destinations. If your flight is delayed by more than two hours, you may also qualify for a free lounge pass for that journey. Contact Saily support through the app for assistance.
- One Fast Track pass per month: Fast Track lets you bypass some airport security queues and enter the terminal more quickly. Saily Ultra provides one free Fast Track pass per person each month, delivered as a QR code through the app. Check the full list of supported Fast Track destinations. I was unable to test this feature because it is available in fewer locations than the lounge pass.
- Online security tools: Activating Saily Ultra through the app gives you access to NordVPN, NordPass, NordLocker, and Incogni. Saily’s parent company is Nord Security, so the plan includes several related privacy and security services: a VPN, password manager, secure cloud storage, and a data-removal tool that can help request the removal of personal information from the internet.
Saily also advertises additional benefits, including priority customer support, an ad blocker, and 8% back in Saily credits. An ad blocker can improve browsing and may help reduce mobile data usage. You can use earned credits toward additional data plans, lounge passes, and other benefits. Lounge and Fast Track passes can roll over for up to three months if unused, but they cannot be shared with another person.
Saily currently lists ClassPass subscriptions among its benefits, although this offer was not available when I tested the plan. Because included features, availability, and eligibility can change, review the latest terms and benefits before purchasing Saily Ultra.
