Trump Calls on FCC to Punish NBC’s Kristen Welker Over “Mixed Results” Election Report

President Donald Trump has called on the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to reprimand or punish NBC’s Meet the Press host Kristen Welker over comments about support for his political nominees. The demand is the latest example of Trump urging the FCC to take action against journalists and media organizations he criticizes.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump accused Welker of making what he described as “intentional inaccuracies” while discussing election results and congressional support for his nominees. He wrote that the comments should be “reported to the FCC for reprimand or punishment.” Trump’s Truth Social post.

Trump specifically criticized Welker for describing support for his nominees as “mixed.” He argued that the assessment was inaccurate, pointing to what he characterized as strong recent and long-term voting records for several lawmakers, including Lindsey Graham and Mike Mazzei.

“How could anyone say such a thing?” Trump wrote, claiming that Welker’s remarks represented an intentional error. He also referred to the current program as “Meet the Fake Press,” continuing his longstanding attacks on news organizations and journalists who report critically on his administration.

In a separate Truth Social post, Trump criticized polling and called on the FCC to intervene. “The fake polls used by our fraudulent media are out of control and something must be done about it. FCC to the rescue!” he wrote.

Trump has also recently targeted New York Times journalist Maggie Haberman. In another post, he used insulting language against Haberman and accused her of publishing false reports about him.

Trump’s post about Welker included an image that purported to show a near-perfect success rate for his endorsements during the current election cycle. He urged FCC Chair Brendan Carr and the agency’s commissioners to treat what he called a threat to the country seriously.

The comments add to growing concerns about political pressure on the FCC and the use of federal agencies to challenge broadcasters and journalists. Trump has repeatedly called for action against media outlets whose coverage he disputes.
