OpenAI Reportedly Tests $500 ChatGPT Pro Max Subscription

OpenAI appears to be preparing a new ChatGPT Pro Max subscription that could cost $500 per month, although the company has not announced when—or whether—it will officially launch the plan.

The potential subscription would target ChatGPT power users who need more access than the existing $200-per-month Pro plan provides. Demand for higher usage limits has been building among users, making a $500 tier a plausible addition to OpenAI’s subscription lineup.

It is currently unclear when users will be able to subscribe. TestingCatalog spotted the unannounced plan in ChatGPT’s subscription interface alongside the Plus and existing Pro options.

ChatGPT Pro Max may cost $500 per month

One version of the subscription page lists ChatGPT Pro Max at $500 per month, while another shows a total of $600 after local or value-added tax.

The most notable difference in OpenAI’s description is the promise of “fastest work and codex.” The plan also appears to include access to OpenAI’s most capable Frontier model, maximum memory, 100 GB of file storage, and early access to new features.

However, the existing $200 ChatGPT Pro plan also promises early access. It is therefore unclear whether that benefit would remain available to Pro subscribers or become exclusive to the new Pro Max tier.

Because OpenAI has not officially announced ChatGPT Pro Max, its exact usage limits and other benefits remain unknown. The plan could offer significantly higher limits than the current Pro subscriptions.

Could Cerebras power ChatGPT Pro Max’s faster AI responses?

The phrase “fastest work and codex” may point to the use of Cerebras hardware, although this remains speculation and neither company has confirmed a connection to the possible subscription.

OpenAI has previously discussed using Cerebras hardware for ultra-fast AI inference. The companies’ most recent developments include the launch of Codex-Spark at more than 1,000 tokens per second on Cerebras and an OpenAI demonstration of GPT-5.6 Sol running at up to 750 output tokens per second in Ultrafast mode powered by Cerebras.

Although OpenAI and Cerebras have not confirmed that the technology will be used for ChatGPT Pro Max, Cerebras could potentially power some of the plan’s faster Work and Codex experiences.

ChatGPT Pro subscription availability

ChatGPT currently offers Pro subscriptions priced at $100 and $200 per month. However, new sign-ups and upgrades for the ChatGPT Pro $200 plan have been temporarily suspended since September 10.
