Apple Releases iOS 27, macOS 27 and More With Major Siri AI Updates

Apple has released its major 2026 operating system updates, including iOS 27, macOS 27 Golden Gate, watchOS 27, visionOS 27 and tvOS 27.

Siri AI Comes to Apple’s Latest Operating Systems

Siri AI, a major language model-based overhaul of Apple’s voice and text assistant, is a flagship feature in every release except tvOS 27.

The updated Siri can respond to natural-language requests, describe what is displayed on the screen, and search a user’s personal context and history, including older emails and text messages. Users can also interact directly with apps when developers add support for the feature.

Other new AI capabilities include generating Shortcut automations and Safari extensions from prompts, along with additional photo-editing options. Apple has also introduced a dedicated Siri app that resembles classic ChatGPT or Claude apps in some ways.

Apple Intelligence Models Power Siri AI

Siri AI and other Apple Intelligence features are primarily powered by a small number of Apple-developed models, most of which are called AFM 3.

On-device models include the AFM 3 Core, with 3 billion parameters, and AFM 3 Core Advanced, a 20 billion parameter model that “uses a sparse architecture and enables just 1 to 4 billion parameters at a time on request.”

More powerful models run on remote servers, including AFM 3 Cloud, ADM 3 Cloud for images, and AFM3 Cloud Pro.

Liquid Glass Gets More Customization in iOS 27 and macOS 27

On both iOS and macOS, users can now adjust the transparency or opacity of the “Liquid Glass” design throughout the operating system with a slider.

Apple has also made several smaller design adjustments in macOS 27 to address user feedback since Liquid Glass was introduced. Although the update does not fundamentally change the design, it delivers a much-needed polish pass.
