NASA’s Ames Research Center in California’s Silicon Valley is inviting media representatives to learn more about NASA’s Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope, scheduled to launch from NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida on Sunday, August 30, 2026. The Roman Space Telescope will provide wide, detailed views of the universe, helping scientists investigate dark energy, discover and study exoplanets, and better understand the formation of cosmic structures. The mission will also demonstrate advanced technology designed to directly image planets orbiting nearby stars, supporting NASA’s ongoing search for signs of life beyond Earth.
NASA Ames subject matter experts will be available for virtual media interviews to discuss the center’s contributions to the Roman Space Telescope mission. Wednesday, August 26, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. PDT.
NASA Ames Contributions to the Roman Space Telescope Mission
- NASA Ames, in collaboration with NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Maryland, and IPAC at Caltech in Pasadena, California, developed innovative software to improve Roman Space Telescope images, optimize observation plans, and help astronomers capture vast, high-resolution images of the universe in optical and near-infrared light.
- NASA Ames researchers are advancing multistar wavefront control technology, which is designed to suppress excess light and eliminate overlapping glare in multistar systems. This capability could help reveal previously hidden exoplanets orbiting nearby stars.
- NASA Ames’ Advanced Supercomputing Division is applying its extensive expertise in data pipelines and mission operations to support the Roman project. The team is helping ensure reliable ground systems, efficient science-data processing, and high-quality, scientifically accurate data products.
