Despite doubts about whether the Raspberry Pi 5 will be released this year, the latest version of the microcomputer has arrived.

This model has some significant upgrades over its predecessors, and with a starting price of $60, it’s clear that it should perform better than its predecessors. The Raspberry Pi 5 is powered by a 64-bit quad-core Arm Cortex-A76 processor clocked at 2.4GHz, providing two to three times the performance of the previous Raspberry Pi 4. The device also comes with an 800MHz VideoCore VII graphics chip which the Raspberry Pi Foundation says offers a “significant increase in graphics performance,” reports The Verge.

For the first time, there is also a southbridge, a part of the chipset that helps the microcomputer communicate with peripheral devices. The RP5 also has two 1.5 Gbps MIPI transceivers and you can connect up to two cameras or displays. There’s also a new PCI Express 2.0 interface, but you’ll still need a separate adapter, such as an M.2 HAT, to use it.

As for ports, you can expect two 4Kp60 HDMI outputs with HDR support, a microSD slot, two USB 3.0 ports, two USB 2.0 ports, 1Gbit Ethernet and a 5V DC port for USB-C power. The Raspberry Pi 5 will come with several different RAM options. It will cost $60 for the 4GB version and $80 for the 8GB, making it slightly more expensive than the RP4, which costs $55 for 4GB of RAM and $75 for 8GB.
