After a period of extreme heat, the UK is set to experience a significant drop in temperatures this weekend, marking the conclusion of the heatwave in several regions.
Northerly winds will bring a refreshing change, lowering temperatures by several degrees across various locations, with notable decreases expected in Scotland, Northern Ireland, and northern England.
Despite the cooling trend, many parts of the UK, particularly southern England, will remain warmer than usual, having met or surpassed heatwave thresholds for 12 consecutive days.
While the heat has diminished, there is still no indication of heavy rainfall in the forecast. The high-pressure system is anticipated to linger near the UK at least until early next week, resulting in unusually dry and clear weather.
As high pressure intensifies to the west of the UK, northerly winds will emerge, leading to cooler temperatures this weekend.
On Saturday, maximum temperatures in northern Scotland are expected to be up to 7°C lower than those recorded on Thursday, signaling the end of the heatwave.
In north-west England, temperatures are projected to fall by 5 to 6 degrees from Thursday’s highs, settling into the low 20s by Saturday.
