NASA Langley’s “Star Spangled Banner, Supernova – A Symphony Under the Stars” event united employees, families, and community members for an unforgettable evening rich with music, connection, and celebration.
Held on July 16, this special event commemorated the 250th National Day of the United States of America, marking a significant milestone for the nation.
The night featured vibrant performances by an orchestra comprising NASA Langley staff and talented members of the Williamsburg Youth Orchestra. Additionally, there were captivating solo performances from NASA staff and special guest artist Carl Vernet.
“Bringing people together to showcase diverse talents creates something truly meaningful, and in this case, incredibly beautiful,” stated Jennifer Kibler, deputy director of NASA’s Langley Research Directorate.
The orchestra performed a medley of patriotic classics and space-inspired compositions, truly reflecting the creativity and talent within the community. Highlights included “America the Beautiful,” “God Bless America,” and “Jupiter, Bringer of Joy” from Gustav Holst’s orchestral suite “The Planets.”
This event also coincided with NASA Langley’s 109th birthday, reminding guests of the center’s important legacy where scientists, engineers, and communicators come together to celebrate not only NASA’s mission but also the people who drive that mission forward.
“This was a huge team effort,” said Nicole Orman, administrative management specialist in the Research Directorate. “Our success would not have been possible without the contributions of each individual involved.”
