Suffolk builder says filming and live streaming the solar eclipse from his backyard observatory was “amazing.”
Simon Wallace became a keen online astrophotographer after losing work during the coronavirus pandemic. He has since built a fully automated astronomy rig at his home near Stowmarket, Suffolk, allowing him to capture and share stunning views of the night sky.
On Wednesday, he spent several hours setting up his mobile equipment at a rural location with a clear view of the horizon before live streaming the solar eclipse, external to his YouTube followers.
“I’ve never seen an eclipse like this before. I saw one last March, but it wasn’t as large as this one, so it was really special for me,” he told Radio Suffolk.
“It’s incredible to see. A solar eclipse doesn’t happen very often, and it’s something everyone can enjoy.”
“The weather was perfect, with no clouds in the sky, so it was wonderful.”
