NASA will provide live coverage on Tuesday, September 1, as two astronauts conduct a spacewalk outside the International Space Station (ISS). The crew will replace spacecraft navigation equipment and complete critical maintenance tasks that support ongoing space station operations.

NASA astronaut Jessica Meir and European Space Agency (ESA) astronaut Sophie Adenot will perform the 99th U.S. spacewalk. The astronauts will replace the retroreflector on the forward port of the space station’s Harmony module. This equipment helps support spacecraft navigation during rendezvous and docking operations.
After installing the new reflector, the astronauts will install jumper cables for the station’s data relay system, prepare the Alpha Magnetic Spectrometer radiator for future maintenance, and replace a high-resolution camera mounted on the station’s truss.
Adenot will serve as spacewalk crew member 1 and will wear a spacesuit with red stripes. Meir will serve as crew member 2 and will wear an unmarked spacesuit.
This mission will mark Meir’s seventh spacewalk and Adenot’s third. Meir is on track to rank third among NASA’s female astronauts for total spacewalks, behind Peggy Whitson with 10 and Suni Williams with nine. The excursion will also be the 284th spacewalk dedicated to space station assembly, maintenance, and upgrades.
