Uber has launched its first self-driving minicab service in London, giving passengers the opportunity to experience one of the UK’s first robotaxi services. The autonomous Uber rides officially became available to customers on Thursday.
The initial rollout is limited to 15 licensed self-driving cars operating across the city. Each vehicle must have a trained human safety driver behind the wheel who can take control if necessary.
At launch, Uber robotaxi rides in London cost the same as standard UberX, Uber Electric and Uber Comfort journeys. Passengers can view the prepaid fare in the Uber app before booking.
