while it’s still there Windows 11 offers several ways to manage notifications and avoid digital distractions. Alerts are not inherently disruptive when they are scheduled thoughtfully and used for the right tasks.
Well-timed notifications can help you stay organized and accomplish more throughout the day. Windows 11 includes built-in tools for creating custom reminders that appear according to a schedule you choose.
You can use scheduled notifications for almost anything. Set a reminder to take a break, block out time for an important project, or receive an alert when it is time to pick up the kids.
Whatever your goal, Windows 11 makes it easy to create custom notifications. Here is how to set them up with Task Scheduler, along with another built-in option that can help.

If you want to create custom notifications in Windows 11 without installing additional software, Task Scheduler is a useful built-in tool. Type Task Scheduler into the taskbar search box or the Start menu, then select the app when it appears.
In Task Scheduler, open the Action menu and select Create Basic Task. Enter a name and description so you can identify the reminder later, then click Next.
Choose how often you want the notification to appear. Task Scheduler supports several triggers, including Daily, Weekly, Monthly, One time, When the computer starts, When I log on, and When a specific event is logged.
Click Next and select the date and time for the notification. For recurring reminders, you can set the exact schedule—for example, every day at 4 p.m. Click Next again, choose Start a program, and select Next to continue.
In the Program/script field, enter msg. In the Add arguments (optional) field, type the message you want to receive, such as “Reminder: Stand up and stretch.” Click Next to review the task, then select Finish to save it.
Your Windows 11 notification will appear at the scheduled time, even if Task Scheduler is not open. To edit or remove a reminder, open Task Scheduler and select Task Scheduler Library. Find the task, right-click it, and choose the appropriate option to modify or delete it.
Set reminders with the Windows Clock app
The built-in Windows Clock app can also be used to set reminders.

Task Scheduler is convenient because it is built into Windows 11 and does not require another app to run in the background. However, the built-in Microsoft Clock app provides another straightforward way to create scheduled alerts.
The Clock app is included with Windows 11 and lets you set alarms for specific times. It is a good choice for simple reminders, while Task Scheduler offers more flexibility for recurring notifications and event-based alerts.
