OpenAI is preparing to bring ChatGPT Work functionality into the regular ChatGPT interface and combine usage allowances for ChatGPT and Codex. The company said it will begin testing the unified experience with a small group of users in the coming weeks, while Pro subscribers will see both services draw from the same usage allowance.
ChatGPT Work features move into regular Chat
In an email seen by BleepingComputer, OpenAI said it plans to test an integrated experience involving the Chat and Work tabs with a limited group of users. Those selected will be able to move from a standard conversation to more complex tasks without switching modes.

“This allows you to go from exploring an idea to executing it with ChatGPT, all in one place,” OpenAI explained.
The company said users will be able to bring in files and plugins, then ask ChatGPT to build a website, create a presentation, or complete other work on the web while the user reviews and guides the process.
OpenAI will initially test the unified experience with a small group before expanding it to more users. Codex will remain a separate experience in the ChatGPT desktop app.
ChatGPT and Codex will share usage allowances
OpenAI is also preparing a change for Pro subscriptions by unifying usage between ChatGPT and Codex. Both services will draw from the same allowance.
“ChatGPT and Codex usage draw from the same allowance,” OpenAI said in the email.
Not every conversation will reduce that shared quota. OpenAI said Unlimited Instant is included with the subscription and does not count toward the shared usage limits.
More advanced models and complex tasks will consume more of the allowance, depending on the work involved.
Subscribers can check their remaining usage and the time until their allowance resets by going to Settings > Usage.

Once the allowance is exhausted, users can wait for it to reset, upgrade their subscription, or purchase credits for eligible features.
Separately, OpenAI doubled the Work and Codex allowance for Pro 100, Pro 200, and Pro 500 subscriptions starting October 29.
