Claude AI Outage Disrupts Login Access and Performance
Claude is experiencing a major service outage, with users reporting authentication problems, slow performance, and other access issues across several Anthropic services.
The incident began on August 16, 2026, at approximately 21:58 UTC and is affecting Claude.ai, Claude Code, and Claude Cowork.
According to the Anthropic status page, the company is investigating an issue preventing some users from authenticating to Claude.ai, Claude Code, and Claude Cowork.
Several minutes later, Anthropic reported a broader service disruption involving degraded performance on Claude.ai and platform.claude.com.

During the Claude outage, users may experience sign-in failures, page-loading problems, unsuccessful requests, slow responses, or other errors when accessing the affected services.
Anthropic’s status page currently identifies Claude.ai, Claude Code, and Claude Cowork as experiencing a major outage. Claude Console and the Claude API are currently listed as operational.
Anthropic has not yet disclosed the cause of the disruption. Both incidents remain under investigation as of this writing.

Update 2: At 22:07 UTC, Anthropic reported performance degradation affecting Claude.ai and platform.claude.com. The company said it was continuing to investigate the outage.
