Fairphone smartphones have been available in the United States before, but previous models were imported and sold through third-party companies. The standard Fairphone 6 was offered by Murena at a higher price and came with /e/OS, a privacy-focused, de-Googled version of Android. The new Fairphone Gen 6+ arrives with a standard Android 16 installation, Google Play Services, and the company’s promise of seven years of software updates.

The Fairphone Gen 6+ stands out from conventional smartphones with its modular, repairable design. Replacing a battery or repairing another phone often involves heating adhesives, removing fragile glass panels, and disconnecting delicate cables. Fairphone’s design is simpler: two screws on the back panel provide access to the phone’s internal components. This repair-friendly construction comes with an IP55 rating, which protects the device from dust and water splashes but not full submersion.
With a single T5 Torx screwdriver, owners can replace the battery, cameras, USB-C port, display, and other parts. Fairphone offers 12 replaceable components for purchase, including an $8 SIM card tray and a $90 OLED display assembly. The company also sells accessories such as protective cases, straps, and interchangeable back panels with card holders or finger loops.
The Fairphone Gen 6+ is fully unlocked for the US market and supports T-Mobile and AT&T networks. The phone is available directly from Fairphone and is expected to arrive on Amazon soon.
