The advent of the AI era necessitates robust AI infrastructure, with many innovative systems being developed and tested in Texas.
Wistron has officially launched its inaugural U.S. manufacturing facility in Fort Worth. This state-of-the-art, 324,000-square-foot greenfield factory will be instrumental in producing superchips integral to the most advanced AI systems worldwide.
During the opening ceremony, attended by Wistron executives, Taiwanese officials, and local Fort Worth leaders, NVIDIA Founder and CEO Jensen Huang expressed the significance of establishing an AI-centric infrastructure in America alongside Wistron Chairman Simon Lin.
“Manufacturing serves as a cornerstone of every economy,” Huang stated. “By establishing chip manufacturing plants, packaging facilities, and AI factories across the nation, the United States is embarking on an unprecedented re-industrialization.”
Currently, Wistron’s D1 facility operates two manufacturing cells, focusing on NVIDIA GB300 Grace Blackwell Ultra Super Chip and NVIDIA Vera Rubin Super Chip. By the end of this year, D1 is projected to ramp up production to tens of thousands of boards monthly leveraging cutting-edge technology.
Scaling AI development requires more than just chips and code; it demands comprehensive factories, robust supply chains, and a skilled workforce. This means creating a domestic manufacturing base that can grow and adapt to rapid technological advancements—the Fort Worth facility exemplifies this capability.
$700 Million Investment
This cutting-edge facility represents a $700 million commitment to advanced U.S. manufacturing, generating over 500 new jobs in Texas, with plans to expand to 1,000 by year’s end.
“We’re creating jobs in plumbing, construction, manufacturing, and electrical fields,” Huang remarked. “There are diverse job opportunities emerging in America.”
“From a macro viewpoint encompassing the global AI landscape to individual communities, this vision is monumental,” Lin added. “I look forward to a transformative AI era that enhances our happiness and well-being.”
NVIDIA is investing $500 billion into advanced AI platforms in the U.S., and the Wistron Fort Worth facility is a crucial element in transforming these projections into reality.
Virtual World Foundations
Wistron’s entire facility was meticulously designed and simulated prior to construction using a digital twin on NVIDIA’s open platform, including Nemotron and Cosmos frontier models to build frameworks and libraries.
This approach allows Wistron engineers to optimize assembly line layouts, streamline production processes, and comprehensively train staff on standard operating procedures before the physical factory launches.
Winning on All Levels
The AI era transcends chips alone. Success hinges on excelling at every layer, from semiconductors and systems to the factories that produce them.
“Manufacturing AI technology will soon be fundamental to societal infrastructure, akin to agriculture today,” Huang noted. “While we currently rely on roads, agriculture, and railways, future society will depend on AI factories and the Internet, enabling factories to generate digitized tokens.”
During the ceremony, the first NVIDIA GB300 Grace Blackwell Ultra superchip produced on-site was unveiled, personally signed by Huang.
Huang characterized the system surrounding the NVIDIA GB300 Grace Blackwell Ultra superchip as “the world’s most powerful AI supercomputer.”
“This unit comprises 1.5 million parts, weighs two tons, and is valued at $4 million, all manufactured at Wistron—much like we produce mobile devices—at scale to meet global demand for intelligence infrastructure,” Huang shared.
Following the ceremony, Huang participated in an interview with Mike Allen from Axios and Lana Ferguson from Dallas Morning News, marking the groundbreaking of their new facility in Sherman.
A new chapter in American manufacturing is unfolding in Fort Worth, with the Wistron factory playing a critical role in NVIDIA’s broader initiative: Built in America, for America—a move to fortify U.S. supply chains, generate skilled jobs, and empower local communities in the future of AI development.
